Pitching In at the 2025 Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games

At SPARK, we’re builders at heart, problem-solvers who love to roll up our sleeves, work together, and make things happen. That same mindset fuels not just our product design work, but our commitment to community.

That’s why we were honored to volunteer at this year’s Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games, a joyful, high-energy event that brought together more than 1,500 athletes, coaches, and chaperones from across the state. Held at the University of Richmond, the weekend-long celebration of inclusion and athletic excellence was powered by hundreds of dedicated volunteers, and we were so happy to be among them.

Behind the scenes of something big

Our team was on site to support event setup, helping lay the groundwork for an unforgettable experience. From assembling tables to organizing spaces, our crew was part of the behind-the-scenes effort that helped make the games run smoothly.

It may not have been the most glamorous job, but as anyone who’s ever seen the Special Olympics in action knows, every task matters when it comes to supporting these amazing athletes.

“It was an incredibly rewarding event to be part of,” said Phil O’Connor, Managing Partner at SPARK. “We were blown away by the scale of the event, and it was exciting to hear how many athletes and volunteers we were helping support just by showing up for setup.”

Want to get involved?

The Special Olympics Virginia team always welcomes extra hands. Local programs across the state rely on volunteers to help athletes train, compete, and thrive. And they need volunteers year-round, not just during big events like Summer Games.
